Multiple Intelligences of 6-Year-Old Children Attending Preschool in Turkey
Uysal, Ebru; Akyol, Aysel Koksal
International Journal of Educational Reform, v16 n4 p451-461 Fall 2007
This study was designed to examine 6-year-old pupils attending different preschool institutions in Turkey in view of the multiple-intelligences theory. This research aims at determining whether the gender of pupils attending different preschool institutions leads to differences in their verbal-linguistics, mathematical-logical, visual-spatial, musical-rhythmic, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal intelligences. The results show that the interaction of Institution Type X Gender causes differences in the verbal-linguistic intelligence. Notably, the verbal-linguistic intelligence grades of girls attending nursery schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education are lower than those of the girls in the other two groups, and the grades of the boys attending private nursery schools are higher than those of the boys in the other two groups. The results of the study also suggest that gender leads to a significant difference in musical-rhythmic intelligence grades and bodily-kinesthetic intelligence grades. The musical-rhythmic intelligence grades of the girls are higher than those of the boys, and the bodily-kinesthetic intelligence grades of the boys are higher than those of the girls.
