Researching and Experiencing Motivation: A Plea for "Balanced Research"

Intrigued by van Lier's call for "balanced teaching", I come up with a proposal of "balanced research". In this paper, I describe my personal involvement in a four-month teaching/data-gathering experience (as a part of my doctoral research project on task motivation) which shows that it both necessitates and ends up involving such a "balanced" approach. Meanwhile, "Exploratory Practice", as a set of general principles for practitioner research, offers great support for my joint teacher/researcher enterprise as well.
