The Needs Assessment: Using Community Consulting Projects to Teach Business Communication
Boiarsky, Carolyn
Business Communication Quarterly, v67 n1 p58-69 2004
The needs assessment, a popular tool for helping businesses determine what they need to do to improve their operations, services, and products, can serve as an excellent vehicle for meeting many of the objectives in an introductory business communication course. A needs assessment project, as with other university-business collaborations, provides the opportunity for students to recognize the relationship between class discussions and the "real world." This article describes the various aspects of a needs assessment project and the types of assignments involved.
