Proactive Recruitment Strategies at CSUS Increase FCS Majors
Malroutu, Y. Lakshmi; Tripp, Paula J.
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v100 n1 p18-23 2008
The profile and needs of today's undergraduate students have changed, and family and consumer sciences (FCS) departments will benefit from taking a proactive approach to adjust their recruitment strategies to meet those needs. California State University, Sacramento, implemented successful efforts in the areas of virtual contact, direct contact, and indirect contact. The department's website and visits with faculty and the department chair were most commonly utilized by students to gain relevant information, followed by contacts with current students, peer advisors, alumni, and university academic counselors. Targeting key audiences was central to meeting identified needs. (Contains 2 figures.)
