FCS Students' Attitudes and Intentions toward Entrepreneurial Careers
Frazier, Barbara; Niehm, Linda S.
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v100 n2 p17-24 2008
Growing interest in entrepreneurship among younger workers has implications for university family and consumer sciences (FCS) programs. This study assessed FCS majors' attitudes toward entrepreneurship as a career path. Students viewed entrepreneurship opportunities as attractive and were confident about their possibilities for success; however, they were less certain whether they had enough knowledge to start a business. Family, work, and education influenced self-efficacy perceptions and beliefs concerning the attractiveness and feasibility of entrepreneurship. Results provide support for FCS entrepreneurship education from a social cognitive career theoretical perspective and suggest ways to help FCS students understand the demands and rewards of entrepreneurship as a career path.
