Supporting First-Year Writing Development Online
Krause, Kerri-Lee
Journal of General Education, v55 n3-4 p201-220 2006
It is imperative to identify the impact of technological advancements on the quality of student learning. This article reports first-year undergraduate students' perceptions of and experiences with a Web-based writing support program. Two research questions guided the study: (1) What is the nature of first-year students' interactions with Web-based writing support?; and (2) Do demographic subgroup differences emerge in the ways students perceive and interact with an online writing support resource? These research questions inform the broader question: What are the implications for using ICTs to enhance the quality of learning and teaching in the first year? The findings have implications for institutional leaders, policy makers, academics, and designers of online instructional materials. (Contains 2 tables and 1 figure.)
