Strike while the Iron is Cold: Tips for University Supervisors

All university supervisors have had the experience of observing pre-service teachers who have performed their teaching duties poorly. Given the stress that this type of situation produces, it is understandable that the pre-service teacher may not be in the best frame of mind to immediately receive feedback on his/her less-than-acceptable teaching performance. Hence, the following strategy is proposed for those who supervise pre-service teachers (who perform below expectation): "It is probably best to strike while the iron is cold." This article suggests a four-phase strategy that will guide university supervisors in handling pre-service teachers who exhibit ineffective teaching skills. (Contains 2 tables.)
