Got Fitness? Addressing Student Fitness Needs within Secondary Physical Education
Banks, Aaron; Reimann, Bonnie
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v20 n4 p13-16 Mar-Apr 2007
Feeling trapped within your daily teaching routine? Are the same curricular activities getting you down, or worse yet ... your students? Perhaps you and your students are craving an injection of new and fun fitness activities designed for the secondary level. The development of health-related fitness has long been associated with primary curricular goals within physical education. A common complaint among educators and students alike is that fitness activities have the potential to become mundane and monotonous. The authors intend to change student boredom and alienation by engaging students with challenging fitness activities. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to provide the reader with several fitness activities designed to encourage maximum participation and increase student enjoyment within the gymnasium.
