Physical Activity for Low-Income Children
Greenberg, Jayne; Silvestri, Lynette
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v20 n3 p35-36 Jan-Feb 2007
With increasing demands placed on academic achievement and limited time during the school day, school administrators struggle to implement daily physical education for all students. As this trend becomes more prevalent, community-based organizations need to come forward to offer more after school and weekend programs to assist youth in achieving recommended levels of daily physical activity. Although these are no substitutes for daily physical education, such programs do provide an outlet for physical activity. Whatever one's status, there are programs available in schools and communities to ensure that youth receive the recommended levels of daily physical activity. In this article, two practitioners share their views on physical activity for low-income students.
