Celtic Throwing Games for Physical Education
Perlman, Dana J.; Karp, Grace Goc
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v20 n2 p29-34 Nov-Dec 2006
Celtic throwing games were initially designed to test an individual's level of strength, which sounds like an activity for those students who possess incredible strength. However, Celtic throwing games can be modified to meet the diverse educational needs of one's entire class. This article provides guidelines for developing and implementing a unit of Celtic throwing games by covering: (1) equipment; (2) rules; (3) events; and (4) teaching suggestions. Not only are Celtic games great for the physical education student, they are also positive tools for incorporating an interdisciplinary aspect within physical education. Students can learn about the history and traditions of Scottish games and Scotland. (Contains 6 figures.)
