So Much for the Information Age
Gup, Ted
Chronicle of Higher Education, v54 n31 pA37 Apr 2008
In this article, the author reports his dismay when he learned that his students are ignorant of critical issues outside of the classroom despite the availability of online information. However, he believes that its both unfair and inaccurate to hold those young people accountable for the moral and legal morass they find themselves in as a nation. The students' lack of knowledge of the outside world is partly the fault of teachers, parents, and the society. As such, the author contends that it is time once again to make current events an essential part of the curriculum. In addition, families and schools must instill in students the habit of following what is happening in the world.
