Sexual Victimization of Youth

An estimated 7.0% to 8.1% of American youth report being sexually victimized at some point in their life time. This article presents a background to youth sexual victimization, focusing on prevalence data, challenging issues when studying this problem, risk factors, and common characteristics of perpetrators. Additionally, a type of sexual violence which is rarely discussed, that of commercial sexual exploitation of children and youth, is introduced.
