Okay, I'm Now a Feminist: Confessions of One Man's Journey
Anger, Eric Jessup
About Campus, v9 n6 p26-28 Jan-Feb 2005
In this article, the author recalls an incident that made him realize and consider that he might be a feminist. It happened when he was invited by a friend to attend a lecture by Gloria Steinem on the impact of feminism in higher education. Here, the author explains his childhood and its impact on his view of feminism. He also describes a recent experience that reminded him of how sexism can disempower women in a community without many even noticing it. As he understood the intense change needed to support institutional environments that promote equally the development of male and female students, the author reminds faculty and staff that they have a great responsibility to be aware of how their own attitudes affect the message that they send to their students.
