Collaborations between student affairs professionals and faculty are typically viewed as essential to the creation of successful student learning environments. Yet, the author warns that collaborations are more complicated than they may first appear. As someone who has been a student affairs administrator and a faculty member, the author has had a unique vantage point from which to observe, interpret, and comment on these joint ventures. In this essay, he dissects conventional wisdom involving student affairs-faculty partnerships, with the hope that readers will approach these initiatives more cautiously and purposefully.(Contains 7 notes.)
