Assessment Partnership: A Model for Collaboration between Two-Year and Four-Year Institutions
Anderson, Robin D.; Sundre, Donna L.
Assessment Update, v17 n5 p8, 16 Sep-Oct 2005
Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) and James Madison University (JMU) in Virginia are longtime transfer partners. Almost 85 percent of BRCC's transfer students transfer to JMU. An articulation agreement between the two institutions guarantees admission to JMU with junior status to BRCC Associate in Arts and Sciences graduates who have a grade point average of 2.7 or better and have completed specified coursework. More recently, the two campuses have established new forms of partnership in the area of assessment. In 2001, the JMU Center for Assessment and Research Studies and BRCC's Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness discussed the possibility of collaborating on selected assessment initiatives. This article describes several joint initiatives made possible by this partnership. By developing assessment partnerships, institutions can further their assessment initiatives while providing one another with valuable information to improve programs and more fully support students.
