Assessment in Undergraduate Counselor Education: A Contract with Clients

Counselor educators and students share an ethical accountability for the quality of service that these students will one day provide to their client populations. In this article, the author discusses how assessment can be understood as part of the contract educators make not only with their students, but also with the individuals they will encounter professionally in the future. Good assessment practices focus counselor educators' attention and that of their students on where they need to be when their journey is over. In addition, the author suggests that it is wise for counselor educators to focus less on the theory of assessment and more on its practice.
