Using an Experiment in Portfolios in the Middle School
Maxwell, Vicki L.; Lassak, Marshall B.
Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School, v13 n7 p404-409 Mar 2008
Standard classroom tests tend to showcase what students know at that point in time and do not usually reflect real-life mathematics. They are not always accurate indicators of what students understand and how they understand it. Portfolios are tools that allow students a better opportunity to exhibit mathematical growth in understanding and attitude over time. This article describes how one teacher used portfolios as an alternative assessment in her mathematics classroom. (Contains 4 figures.)
