The Jobs Can Be Found
Conners, David; McCarthy, Laena
Library Journal, v132 n14 p44-45 Sep 2007
In fall 2005, Rachel Holt and Adrienne L. Strock's article, "The Entry-Level Gap," ("Library Journal" 5/1/05, p.36-38) became the talk of the town. Holt and Strock argued that the new Master of Library Science (MLS) graduates have trouble finding work because of low salaries and the disappearance of entry-level positions owing to deprofessionalization. In this article, the authors disprove Holt and Adrienne's hypothesis on the entry-level gap among MLS graduates by showing the results of their own large-scale, comprehensive survey of recent graduates. The authors found that the job search for MLS graduates may be long, but most eventually find employment. Still, the authors believe that Holt and Strock have raised several interesting questions that invite further inquiry.
