Tattling Ends but Bullying Continues

Everyone has a mental image of what bullying looks like as well as how it feels. Those images may come from personal situations, staff development training, years of experience within the profession, or a combination of all three. But no matter where people's images of bullying come from, few would argue that as perpetrators and victims age and mature, harassment and intimidation evolve into a complex social issue that leave school personnel perplexed and looking for ideas about how to respond appropriately. This article discusses the role of principals in helping their school communities become aware of the problem and confront and overcome several of the challenges associated with bullying at the secondary level. Top ten bullying prevention strategies for secondary schools are presented.
