This article presents an anecdote of the author's experience of working "in the usual way" using animation with Year 7 and with National Academy of Gifted and Talented Youth students (Y7-11) at a recent summer school in Lancaster. When he tried the animation with Year 7 and NAGTY students, the author found that this could easily be used with any set--or, ideally, with a mixed ability class. The animation is called "SpinLine" and is split into four episodes: (1) line; (2) square; (3) rectangle; and (4) triangle. The author describes the benefits of using animation on the students' learning as well as on his teaching. He also offers tips on how to work with film "in the usual way."
