Supervising Student Teachers
Patterson, Berniece
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v107 n5 p42-43 Jan 2008
Mentor teachers want their student teachers to be prepared with quality instruction so that students can achieve their maximum potential. The knowledge and experience that the student teachers gain with the mentor teachers in their classrooms is invaluable. As supervisors of student teachers, mentor teachers follow an evaluation form which has been adopted by the college of education and is used to rate student progress in five categories. In this article, the author discusses in detail these five categories: (1) Active, successful student participation in learning process; (2) Learner-centered instruction; (3) Evaluation and feedback on student progress; (4) Management of student discipline, instructional strategies, time, and materials; and (5) Professional communication.
