The Leaking-Toilet Challenge
Roman, Harry T.
Technology Teacher, v67 n4 p34-36 Dec 2007-Jan 2008
Leaking toilets can cost homeowners big dollars--often before it is even realized. Homeowners do not necessarily hear it leaking. It just does, and when the water bill comes due, it can be a most unpleasant surprise. This article presents a classroom challenge to try to develop leak-detection ideas that would be inexpensive and easily added to existing toilets to make sure a homeowner knows the toilet is leaking before the big bills come due. This very practical leaking-toilet challenge is a real-world problem, in which students learn how to detect leaking toilets by becoming toilet-leak detectors on this challenge. This article describes how the leaking-toilet challenge can be done by the students with creativity.
