Inspiring Words for Educators
Curriculum Review, v47 n3 p12 Nov 2007
The tradition of Thanksgiving in America dates back to 1621 when the Pilgrims were virtually starving. Nowadays, Americans celebrate this event by eating more than they need and giving some thoughts to the blessings they had for the past year. Many of today's children are not accustomed to how it feels to be hungry, although many experience it on a daily basis. The month of November provides teachers with excellent opportunities to teach about the First Thanksgiving, while at the same time help them appreciate the lives they have in contemporary America. This article presents five Thanksgiving activities for students. Several websites that offer inspiring and thought-provoking ideas about Thanksgiving are also presented.
