MENC: The National Association for Music Education Is Pleased to Present The Power of Music ... Changing Lives--Our New Music Education Advocacy Brochure Series
Teaching Music, v15 n2 p68 Oct 2007
Music education in the United States is chronically at risk, even though both experience and research point to music as a catalyst for students' growth and development. Principals, school boards, and parents all have the ability to substantially aid music educators in their quest to enrich children's minds through music. Music teachers play a critical role in winning their support. The "Power of Music ... Changing Lives" series has been created to help music educators effectively reach the people who can help them keep their music program strong. The brochures have been developed specifically for distribution to those in the education community who most influence school music education programs, to give those audiences "the why and the how" of supporting school music education. They will help educate target audiences, provide individualized strategies for tackling the music education debate, and encourage educators of all kinds to get involved in an effective manner. This article presents some simple, time-effective ways to assist a child's school music educators. (Contains 10 online resources.)
