Social Intervention for Children with Language Impairment: Factors Affecting Efficacy
Brinton, Bonnie; Fujiki, Martin
Communication Disorders Quarterly, v28 n1 p39-41 Fall 2006
Children with language impairment (LI) frequently have social difficulties that limit their inclusion in learning contexts and make it difficult for them to form positive social relationships. Intervention programs designed to enhance social communication may be warranted for many children with LI. Several factors should be considered to maximize the efficacy of these intervention programs, however. These factors include the accessibility of the language used in treatment instruction and tasks, the child's individual social goals for interaction, the focus of the treatment, and the time and intensity devoted to intervention.
