An Examination of Mediators and Moderators in Applied Research
Miller, Janice; Hellman, Chan M.
Journal of Applied Research in the Community College, v14 n2 p133-137 Spr 2007
Researchers are being asked to conduct more complex analyses to add clarity and confidence in decision-making. This is especially true for researchers in the community college systems as they serve a more non-traditional student and are more likely to also serve at-risk populations. In this article we distinguish between moderators and mediators as a powerful and substantive approach to studying student integration. More specifically, our study demonstrates the analytical process of investigating affective commitment of community college students as either a moderator or mediator on the relationship between the ability to self-regulate learning and student integration.
