Mentor Teachers Share Views on NCLB Implementation
Snow-Gerono, Jennifer L.; Franklin, Cheryl A.
Kappa Delta Pi Record, v43 n1 p20-24 Fall 2006
As societal and classroom demands for accountability increase, teacher educators are challenged to prepare and support new teachers for the realities of today's classrooms. Sometimes the preparation and the realities appear to be in conflict. University-based teacher educators may stress critical thinking and active learning. School-based teacher educators emphasize test skills and dress for measures of achievement to comply with No Child Left Behind (NCLB) policy implementation. This article, written by university-based teacher-educators, describes how they are partnering with their school-based counterparts to explore practices for teacher preparation that are both rooted in meeting standards and accountability measures as well as promoting teacher leadership among new practitioners
