Weaving the Foundation into the Culture of a Community College
Carlsen, Charles J.
New Directions for Community Colleges, n124 p47-51 2003
This chapter explores the role of the president as enabler and leader in promoting a foundation that is engaged with the community and responsive to the college mission. It uses as its foundation a case study of Johnson County Community College (JCCC), where the president's involvement in the community educates the community about the college, raises the visibility of the president in the community, and creates goodwill, leading to an opportunity for the community to give back to the college and its foundation. Two important means of engaging the community are using student voices to personify the mission of the college and getting supporters involved in meaningful activities. Examples of successful efforts at JCCC are described.
