Today, the principal's role has shifted from managing and evaluating individual instructors to creating and maintaining data-driven collaborative cultures. With a clear focus upon the achievement of all students, the principal must serve as both instructional leader and learning leader. This requires new skills sets. The principal must now be able to engage in systems thinking and demonstrate the ability to both understand and guide complex processes of evaluation, change, and group development. A professional organization, Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), is committed to providing the support new principals need to understand and guide complex processes of evaluation, change, and group development through leadership coaching. ACSA has retained a full-time director of leadership coaching and is actively working to expand the number and outreach capabilities of locally based leadership coaching programs. ACSA is also exploring partnerships with other educational organizations to enrich, broaden and deepen the training, focus and support offered to leadership coaches.
