High Five: Building Capacity for School Excellence
McCullen, Caroline
Principal Leadership, v7 n3 p33-37 Nov 2006
In 2004, five North Carolina school districts combined forces with five corporate foundations to leverage their collective wisdom and develop regional strategies for school improvement. The result was the High Five Regional Partnership for High School Excellence, a corporate-public sector effort that had the common goal of improving graduation rates and better preparing students for life after high school, achievements that benefit the entire community. With goals of improved graduation and attrition rates, the partnership used pooled resources to maximize teacher training and improved instruction. The model provides support, but relies on the schools and districts to build and sustain their momentum for the long run. The partnership extends well beyond the school house doors. High Five is building capacity in both the school and the community, so that every student can graduate well prepared for the future.
