Education as a Resource of the Information Society
Zborovskii, G. E.; Shuklina, E. A.
Russian Education and Society, v49 n2 p40-53 Feb 2007
The literature on sociology in this country in the past few years has featured vigorous discussion of matters relating to the modernization of education in Russia. It is the authors opinion, that the examination of this set of problems has been limited primarily to the present day, and not enough attention is being given to the emergence of the information society. As a rule, education and the information society have been investigated separately and autonomously, without any attempt to bring out the ways that they are internally associated and, to some extent, interdependent. Yet, in their view, understanding their internal relation creates many additional possibilities for the in-depth exploration of contemporary problems of education and an understanding of its development. The present article represents an attempt to explore the evolution of education, treated as a vital element and resource of the information society. In this article, the authors point out that knowledge and education are indispensable characteristics of the information society. They share their opinions on declared education and the Bologna process as well as potential education.
