The Sociological Dimension of the System of Art Education in Belarus

Art education in Belarus is based on two fundamental state documents, the "Law on Education in the Republic of Belarus" and the "Law on Culture in the Republic of Belarus," which spell out the prospects of the development of art education in a unity of goals, tasks, and paths of implementation. The system of art education in the Republic includes aesthetic training, general art education, and professional art education. Programs of art education are being implemented in schools of the relevant profile, in secondary schools, secondary specialized, and higher educational institutions of culture and the arts, as well as in institutions that are engaged in the upgrading of qualifications and retraining of cadres. At the present stage, the basic goals of art education are the following: raising the level of the training of specialists in the sphere of culture and the arts, and preservation and development of the appropriate system of institutions as it has become established in Belarus. This article presents a sociological analysis of the current state and prospects of the development of art education in the Republic of Belarus.
