Conquering the Invisible Wall
Gerke, Wayne
Principal Leadership, v7 n8 p26-29 Apr 2007
In this article, the author, as an assistant superintendent, reflects on his personal experience on overcoming job fatigue. As he reflects on his personal experience, the aspect that disturbs him the most is that he was beating himself up at the start of the process because he felt like he was neglecting his responsibilities. Although he did a lot of work--projects were completed, his office was organized, reading was completed--he still felt guilty for not jumping on every new task or request that came into his office. This mentality is something he is sure leaders at all levels of education experience. He suggests that educational leaders must find the techniques and strategies that will help them maintain a sense of balance. If they do not, all the efforts and energy they put into making positive changes will be unsuccessful.
