Developing Thoughtful Leaders
Scott, Bess Sullivan
Principal Leadership, v5 n3 p22-25 Nov 2004
In this article, the author discusses Lincoln (Nebraska) Public Schools' ongoing professional-development program called "Developing Thoughtful Leaders." The goals of the program are as follows: (1) To foster intellectual development in systems thinking and educational leadership; (2) To examine action research on educational leadership and continual school improvement; (3) To build collaborative support through sharing information and practices, solving problems, and examining emerging issues in educational leadership; and (4) To increase the interconnectedness and sustainability of learning organizations in the district. The program builds skills and relationships among participants. It also requires little financial support but strong participant commitment. In this program, participants learn how to lead a learning organization. The program's design, essential agenda components, and benefits are also discussed. (Contains 6 resources.)
