The Effect of an Educational Program on Technological Literacy--The Example of a Design College in Taiwan
Chu, Yuan-Hsiang
Education, v126 n3 p547-558 Spr 2006
The study investigated the effects of an educational intervention on the variables of awareness, perception, self-efficacy, and behavioral intentions towards technological literacy among students at a College of Design in Southern Taiwan. Using non-probability sampling, 42 freshmen students from the Department of Product Design participated in the research. The study utilized the Two Comparison Groups Design with Pre-test and Post-test with the research participants being randomly assigned to an experimental (n=19) and control (n=23) group. The training program lasted for a total of 12 hours over four days. The analysis of the data was done using regression analysis and the Mann-Whitney U-test. The results indicate that students who received the training program performed better in the areas of perception of technological literacy, self-efficacy, and behavioral intent. Moreover, impact evaluation was also undertaken to determine the satisfactoriness of the training program. 90% of the students who participated in the educational intervention indicated in the feedback survey that they were satisfied with all four teaching units, including the content and teaching methods used.
