Making a Difference One Student at a Time

With less than 10 percent of St. Louis Public Schools' students reaching the "proficient" level in the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP), the district felt some changes needed to be made, and quickly. Accordingly, the district turned to the eMINTS (enhancing Missouri's Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies; www.emints.org) program as a model for moving from a traditional role for teachers--which obviously was not working--to a more constructivist role, which has led to dramatic results. This article describes the impact of the eMINTS program which was adopted by the district in support of improving the academic performance of all children and piloted at Peabody Elementary and Lafayette Elementary.
