With Help & Hope ... Dreams Do Come True: A Look at Easter Seals Therapeutic Day School of Chicago
Leone, Kristen B.
Exceptional Parent, v37 n4 p34-35 Apr 2007
Maurice Snell, 23, has beaten the odds. A young man living with autism, he has a college degree and a job. For many with autism, such achievements may be beyond reach. Maurice has a milder form of this complex neurological disorder, but his future was uncertain for most of his childhood. For years Maurice was nonverbal, and no one had an answer until, at age six, he was diagnosed with autism. When Maurice turned seven, his parents placed him at Easter Seals Therapeutic Day School in Chicago. It's a place where students with autism spectrum disorders, ages 3 to 21, receive an education with speech, language, and communication therapy, occupational therapy, social work services, health-related services, recreational services, and more. This article describes how Easter Seals Therapeutic Day School helped Maurice succeed in school and achieve his dream of working at Easter Seals.
