This paper is an invitation to reflect on the ethical foundations underlying the Millennium Declaration of September 2000, approved by the 189 member states of the United Nations, in which they committed themselves to improve the living conditions of humanity, with special focus on developing countries. It is noteworthy that this proposal, which looks for solutions to social problems, puts variables such as ethnicity and culture to one side. This is indeed surprising if one takes into account that the UN, in the World Conference against racism and other related forms of discrimination of August 2001, declared these to be clear threats against the freedom and dignity of human beings.
