Training Future Schoolteachers to Teach Patriotism to Students

In this article, the author features the state program "The Patriotic Education of Citizens of the Russian Federation in 2001-5," in which the stated purpose is to develop the kind of system of patriotic education for citizens that will be able to accomplish the tasks of consolidating society, maintaining civic and economic stability, and strengthening the unity and friendship of peoples of the Russian Federation. The implementation of this program, including the organization of upbringing work with young people, requires taking account of the complex conditions that have taken shape in the country in the past few years. One of the most important areas with respect to the implementation of this program for college and university education is the formulation of the scientific, theoretical, and methodological principles of patriotic education. Of vital importance is the problem of training future schoolteachers to do work that is linked to teaching students in the spirit of patriotism. In this article, the author discusses the innovative approaches to the theoretical, methodological, and practical training of college students that make it possible to focus on the patriotic education of young people as an integrative task of the shaping of the personality.
