Preparing for an Even Brighter Future
Technology & Learning, v26 n2 p57 Sep 2005
This article discusses the future of America's education system. In 1983, the National Commission on Excellence in Education's report A Nation at Risk raised questions about whether America's education system was endangering America's competitive future. This prompted a wave of reforms in education, including a stronger focus on the effective use of technology in the classroom. In 1985, Apple Computer, Inc., launched an experimental program, Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow, that gave teachers and schools access to computers in order to demonstrate how powerful technology, combined with effective instruction, could be in educating our nation's future leaders. CompassLearning shares a vision for the future. An innovative, research-based educational technology corporation, they are committed to working with educators and parents to improve the academic achievement and performance of all pre-K--12 students. With more than 30 years of experience in the field of research-based instructional technology, CompassLearning continues to be on the leading edge of integrating technology into research-based curriculum to meet today's stringent federal and state requirements and to promote high student achievement.
