"Earth Mission: Rescue" focuses on problems like pollution and wasting resources-- but with an emphasis on the problems? societal implications and solutions. Working in teams, students must show a working knowledge of environmental issues and demonstrate environmental awareness so that they can eliminate various environmental problems. The game is patterned after a popular series of cooperative games created by Jim Deacove (1987). To advance, student teams must rely on their knowledge of basic science concepts, such as energy or the water cycle. "Winning" means that students have collectively saved the environment from destruction. This article describes a game that has been successfully incorporated into an environmental science unit.
