Critical Pedagogy and Personal Struggles: Feminist Scholarship outside Women's Studies

This article was inspired by the authors' attempts to impact student responses to feminist theorizing in a third-year social psychology course. It was grounded in their participant observation, over a three-year period, as instructors at York University in Toronto, Canada. In their respective roles as professor and tutorial assistant, the authors enjoyed a friendly, collegial relationship that was characterized by a collaborative approach to teaching and research. During the course of the three years described in this article, the authors were able to implement a number of pedagogical techniques to facilitate the teaching and learning of feminist theory. The course outline is presented as Appendix A of this document. Appendix B gives an example of the type of reflective questions that were used in the course. (Contains 8 endnotes.)
