The UMass Lilly Teaching Fellows early career faculty development program was rated a success at its 10-year mark by fellows who were asked in a survey to assess the program and its effects on their careers. In order not only to continue the program's success but improve upon it, the UMass Center for Teaching, guided by the survey, significantly strengthened the mentoring and bi-weekly meeting components of the program. Changes included more guidance around selection of and work with mentors and a more structured syllabus for bi-weekly meetings. A survey of the past five years' fellows indicates that those changes dramatically increased the usefulness of mentors and meetings to these more recent fellows, while satisfaction with other aspects of the program remained high. New fellows also indicate that the program continued to impact their classroom work and professional lives in very positive ways.
