The race relations and education before Brown and decisions that did a lot to provide hope for African American that public education would be improved for their children in the country are discussed. The effects of public school desegregation on public education in urban school districts, including the economic costs, racial isolation, student achievement, metropolitan desegregation, and an outlook for the future are also provided.
