Post-Crisis Intervention for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Fucilla, Renee
Reclaiming Children and Youth: The Journal of Strength-based Interventions, v14 n1 p44 Spr 2005
When used within a comprehensive positive behavioral support program, the CPI Postvention model can serve as a facilitation tool, guiding staff through functional behavioral assessment for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Challenging behavior is defined as behavior of such intensity, frequency, or duration that the physical safety of the person or others is placed in serious jeopardy and is likely to seriously limit or deny access to the use of ordinary community facilities (Emerson, 1995). Studies indicate that a range of perceived prevalence exists for the incidence of challenging behaviors among individuals with developmental disabilities, and individuals with limited communication skills are particularly at risk for developing challenging behaviors.
