Asynchronous computer-mediated discussions with specialists in particular fields can lead students to more careful analysis and critique of survey data, case studies, concepts, opinions, and conflicting interpretations, as well as comparison of experiences, self-revelation, self-critique, and formation of personal sensitivities. This article gives practical advice for setting up and managing such discussions based on the experience of several years of arranging electronic meetings between students in several types of courses and experts in those disciplines. The benefits for all involved are amply illustrated.
