Is Consensus on a Definition in the Field Possible, Desirable, Necessary?
Coleman, Laurence J.
Roeper Review, v27 n1 p10 Fall 2004
The author's intention as he began this article was to argue that a consensus definition is the best we can do and other definitions are largely tangential to the practice of gifted education. As he proceeded, he found his position moving in a different direction. His essay lays the argument with minimal formality. Sections in this essay include: (1) Is a Definition Necessary?; (2) A Consensus Exists; (3) Specificity Is Desirable; and (4) Forming a New Consensus.
