This keynote address at the FTE Spirit of Excellence Breakfast presented by Jack Wescott, describes his observations regarding the characteristics of those individuals who were influential to his career. Described in the address are what the author considers to be the six characteristics of a "somebody": (1) Being a "somebody" is dependent upon how we communicate with people; (2) A "somebody" understands the difference between "managing" and "leadership"; (3) A "somebody" is able to focus on areas where he/she can make a difference; (4) A "somebody" has vision and commitment; (5) A "somebody" is also committed and persistent to his or her vision; and (6) Being a "somebody" means understanding the importance of being a mentor.
