Environmental Education in Secondary Schools in Greece: The Viewpoints of the District Heads of Environmental Education
Goussia-Rizou, Maria; Abeliotis, Konstadinos
Journal of Environmental Education, v35 n3 p29 Spr 2004
A research survey regarding the status of environmental education (EE) in the secondary schools of Greece is presented. Closed-form questionnaires were used to survey the opinion of the District Heads of EE. The most important didactic problem reported is the lack of an integrated educational plan. The vast majority of the Heads also think that the EE teachers do not get enough motives to get involved in EE programs The results of the survey also indicate that although the educational material is considered adequate, there is still room for improvement especially in the insular school districts. In terms of improving the teaching of EE in the secondary schools, the District Heads replied that the crucial step will be its full incorporation in the school curriculum.
