Developing Higher-Order Thinking through an Intercultural Assignment: A Scholarship of Teaching Inquiry Project
Harrigan, Anne; Vincenti, Virginia
College Teaching, v52 n3 p113 Sum 2004
The purpose of this scholarship of teaching research is to assess the effectiveness of a cross-cultural problem-solving assignment in two senior-level family and consumer sciences courses at the University of Wyoming. We focus on the development of selected cognitive and affective critical-thinking skills in undergraduates and their international partners. Qualitative analysis of written descriptions and reflections gleaned evidence of intellectual development and the lack thereof and led to recommendations for assignment improvement. This research has implications for curricula across the university.
